Grim's Dyke
Earthworks at this location date back to around 300 BCE and were known by variations on the current name. In the process of becoming immensely wealthy, W. S. Gilbert (as in Gilbert and Sullivan) established a 100 acre estate and built a mansion, now operated as a hotel. He arranged for the planting of non-indigenous trees such as redwoods. The estate has since been reduced to 40 some acres which still provide wonderful hiking and we took full advantage of it.
